Serves 1.5 (me & my toddler!)
Total Time: 10 minutes
6-7 medium ice cubes
1/2 cup fresh blackberries
1 cup spinach
1/4 cup old fashioned oats
1/4 cup coconut milk cream (from can)
1 cup almond or coconut milk (from carton)
2 scoops vanilla protein
1 tsp chia seeds (ground or regular)
1 tsp flax seeds (ground or regular)
1/4 tsp ground cloves
- Add all ingredients to blender and blend on high for 60-90 seconds. Add additional blackberries for toppings if desired
I love the blackberry & clove combo- the spiciness of the clove really offsets the tangy bitterness of blackberries. Blackberries are packed with vitamins C & E and the seeds are filled with phytochemcials which helps with endurance. Cloves are high in omega-3-fatty acids, manganese, and Vitamin K. You are seriously getting a nutrient blast in this smoothie!
This smoothie is PERFECT for a meal substitution in order to fast and give your digestive system the rest it needs. Let me give my 2 cents about meal substitutions- I really don’t believe they should be used for weight loss BUT when they pack as many nutrients and healthy fats as this recipe does, they can be used as a meal replacement that still acts as a fast for your body.
